When you choose to support Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program, your impact goes far beyond matching your home's energy use with renewable energy; it directly contributes to positive, lasting change in communities across the West. Since its inception a quarter-century ago, Blue Sky has empowered customers to drive demand for regional clean energy, and a portion of funds from participant enrollment can support vital community-based renewable energy projects. Let's explore some examples of how Blue Sky participants have been helping to encourage community empowerment and foster a more sustainable future.
In Utah, Blue Sky participants recently supported the installation of a 306.72-kilowatt solar array at The Other Side Tiny Home Village. The Village operates on the belief that genuine community, rather than just housing, is the true solution to homelessness. Their successful model blends stable, deeply affordable housing with a vibrant culture of personal development and strong social bonds. The new solar power system, complete with battery units on the roofs of some buildings, is designed to maximize renewable energy use. This project aims to minimize operational expenses, allowing more financial resources to be channeled directly into the Village’s essential programs. The components were chosen for their reliability and low maintenance, underscoring how Blue Sky support empowers innovative community solutions.
Looking to Wyoming, Blue Sky participants have also played a vital role in supporting an 11-kilowatt solar installation with battery storage at the Lander Care and Share Food Bank. The Lander Care and Share Food Bank, a nonprofit established in 1986, serves over 1,000 individuals monthly by providing nutritionally balanced food boxes. This solar energy system will reduce the amount of money needed for electricity, allowing the Food Bank to allocate more resources directly to purchasing food and covering other essential operational costs. Additionally, the battery storage will help ensure uninterrupted power for refrigeration during outages, and represents a step towards a future with reduced carbon emissions. This entire endeavor empowers the Food Bank to better assist those experiencing food insecurity in the community.
These projects are just a couple examples of the meaningful impact Blue Sky participants have made over the past 25 years. By choosing to enroll in the Blue Sky program, participants are not only reducing their own environmental impact, but also directly investing in projects that strengthen our communities and contribute to a cleaner energy future. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey!
