Casper Mountain system resiliency

Improving safety and reliability

Rocky Mountain Power crews are working on wildfire mitigation projects in the Garden Creek and Casper Mountain areas south of Casper, Wyoming, as part of a broader initiative to enhance electrical system resilience, protect public safety and reduce wildfire risks.

Project need and benefits

These projects will benefit customers in the Garden Creek and Casper Mountain areas by strengthening system safety and long-term reliability.

Key improvements include:

  • Replacing some overhead power lines with underground cable, where feasible, to significantly reduce wildfire risks.
  • Installing advanced technology to enable remote management to increase reliability and resiliency.
  • Replacing infrastructure, including wooden power poles, with steel or fire-wrapped poles to meet modern fire-resiliency standards.
  • Installing tree wire to enhance community safety in areas at greatest risk of wildfire.
  • Replacing electrical components with new infrastructure to help prevent wildfire.

Local impact

Construction will take place in phases, with the Garden Creek phase first, followed by subsequent phases going up Casper Mountain to minimize service disruption and moderate traffic impacts while ensuring critical upgrades are completed efficiently.
