Prepare for a Public Safety Power Shutoff

Safety tips before and during outages

Have an emergency kit

  • Include items like flashlights with extra batteries, battery powered or crank radio, power packs for phones and devices, food, water, medications, first aid kit and cash. 
  • Fill up your vehicle with a full tank of gas. 

Have a plan

  • Create an emergency plan that fits your family’s needs, including children, pets and elderly family members. 
  • Know how to open your garage door and how to unplug appliances. 
  • Check on neighbors who may need assistance. 

Take precautions when using a generator

  • Do not use indoors.  
  • Operate generators a safe distance from your home. 
  • Test before using and follow all instructions. 
  • Do not connect directly to household circuits without a proper generator switching device. 

Safety tips before and during outages

As Rocky Mountain Power crews work to restore power, please remember these safety tips: 

  • NEVER touch downed power lines or equipment. 
  • Rocky Mountain Power employees may be accompanied by contractors and those assisting with restoration. 
  • Rocky Mountain Power employees may need to access your property as part of the inspection and restoration process. 
  • Rocky Mountain Power may use drones or helicopters to inspect for damage as part of the restoration process. Please help our crews by not operating your own UAV devices near Rocky Mountain Power crews.
