SALT LAKE CITY — Today, Rocky Mountain Power celebrated the opening of a company-owned hyper-fast public electric vehicle charging station in Millcreek. The station is one of the first of 20 fast charging stations the company is developing in order to support electric vehicle adoption in Utah. Adding to this progress, charging stations in Vernal, Moab and Kimball Junction have been installed to serve customers and support sustainable transportation.

“As electric vehicles emerge as a solution for clean transportation, Rocky Mountain Power recognizes the importance of charging infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of sustainable transportation alternatives,” said James Cambell, Rocky Mountain Power innovation and sustainability policy director. “These public fast-charging stations will help EV drivers in the communities we serve connect to the economic benefits of clean transportation, while helping improve air quality for all Utahns. Located strategically, these charging stations will provide a convenient charging option for electric vehicle owners in our community and beyond.”

The project is part of the company’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which includes a $50 million investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Utah.

Since 2016, Rocky Mountain Power has facilitated the installation of more than 120 DC fast chargers in Utah and completed an electric highway corridor along I-15. Additionally, more than 3000 Level 2 chargers were installed to support workplaces, retail businesses and multifamily housing customers.

The new stations, developed in collaboration with Electrify America business unit Electrify Commercial, will build on this established network and significantly increase the number of fast chargers along the Wasatch Front and in other areas of the state.

“Through our business unit Electrify Commercial, Electrify America is thrilled to celebrate the opening of Rocky Mountain Power’s hyper-fast charging network,” said Aaron Young, Electrify America’s senior manager, commercial networks & fleets. “Our expertise in deploying and maintaining DC fast charging infrastructure supports Rocky Mountain Power's efforts to make charging more accessible and convenient for EV drivers in Utah.”
