Once again, thanks to Rocky Mountain Power customers, the company has received high national rankings for its voluntary Blue Sky renewable energy program.

The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently released its annual ranking of leading utility green power programs for 2016. For the ninth consecutive year, PacifiCorp – which includes Rocky Mountain Power and Pacific Power – ranks among the top three nationally in two categories.

“We are grateful to our many customers who have opted to support renewable energy production and development,” said Keven Hoopiiaina, Renewable Energy Manager for Rocky Mountain Power. “Those who participate are helping to preserve the environment and conserve resources for future generations.”

Blue Sky ranked second nationally in number of customers buying renewable power and third in renewable energy sales. The program has provided an easy way for customers to support renewable energy generation for over a decade.

“When customers enroll in Blue Sky, Rocky Mountain Power buys renewable energy certificates on their behalf from renewable energy sources,” said Hoopiiaina. “Renewable energy generation can then help to offset the need to produce electricity from other, nonrenewable sources, which benefits the environment.”

Now in its 17th year, Blue Sky has more than 113,000 participants and together they have supported more than 6.9 billion kilowatt-hours of western-region renewable energy and helped fund 244 community-based renewable energy projects.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is the primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. Each year since 2000 it has compiled data on these utility green pricing programs and released annual "Top 10" lists to recognize outstanding programs.
