Summer Electric Rates

From May 1 through September 30, your Rocky Mountain Power bill will be once again calculated based on a tiered pricing structure, which is referred to as a "summer electric rate". The benefits of this program are simple: to help you save energy and keep your energy bill low.

Rates that encourage more energy efficiency

Over Utah's warm summer months, your electric bill will work this way: The energy charge for usage up to 400 kilowatt-hours (kwh) per month will be about 7.5 cents per kwh*. The next additional kwh are about 9.3 cents per kwh*, and any additional kwh over 1,000 is about 11.5 cents per kwh*. So, the less you use the less you pay. (*excludes any applicable taxes and rate surcharges).

How does this affect your electric bill?

The average Utah residential customer who uses 750 kwh per month this summer will see a monthly bill of about $70, as compared to a winter average of about $65. If you were to use 2000 kwh per month this summer you will see a monthly bill of about $215, as compared to a winter average of about $168. So, keeping energy use low can really help you save.

Simple ways to manage your energy use.

One of the biggest uses of energy is your air conditioning. Managing how you stay cool this summer can really help you save. Learn more on our Web site, or link to our Bright Ideas booklet. Our wattsmart energy efficiency programs offer cash incentives and can help you save all year long.
