Westminster College –Dolores Dore Eccles Health and Wellness Center
Salt Lake City: An 8 kilowatt solar array was built on the roof of the newly constructed Dolores Dore’ Eccles Health, Wellness and Athletic Center building.
The solar array consists of forty-two solar panels produces enough electricity to power the equivalent of almost three typical Utah homes. By using pollution-free solar power instead of fossil fuel generated electricity, the system provides environmental benefits equivalent to avoiding 14.7 tons of carbon dioxide out of the air each year. This is equivalent to not using 1,500 gallons of gas, or removing three cars from Utah’s roads each year, according to Westminster College.
The project is part of Westminster’s ongoing effort to transform the campus into a learning tool. The solar power system and building electricity use will be monitored, and students will be able to access real-time data from the college’s website.
