Blue Sky Community Challenges

Ogden Community Challenge

Rocky Mountain Power was one of the first utilities in the country to embrace the concept of a renewable energy community challenge.

Community challenges are multi-month campaigns in which local government, Rocky Mountain Power and other community organizations work together to increase participation in the Blue SkySM program to reach a participation goal.

In many cases, these communities have achieved their EPA Green Power Community status through their community partnership with Rocky Mountain Power. This means that members of the community came together and purchased renewable energy through the Blue Sky program to meet the EPA’s minimum purchase benchmarks based on the community’s overall electricity load.

In fact, the Moab area was the first community to receive this recognition. And 12 of the 26 EPA Green Power communities are in Rocky Mountain Power and Pacific Power service areas.

Rocky Mountain Power communities that have participated in community challenges include:

  • Moab area (Moab and Castle Valley)
  • Park City
  • Ogden
  • Salt Lake City
  • Springdale
  • Sundance residential community
  • Lindon
  • Alpine
  • American Fork
  • Ivins City
