Segment H - Hemingway to Captain Jack
Project Overview
PacifiCorp’s Energy Gateway transmission expansion investment is intended to build transmission that will better integrate its East and West control areas. Building a line west into Oregon from the Hemingway substation area in western Idaho will increase system flexibility and reliability to serve customers. While originally considered as an approximately 375 mile, single-circuit 500 kilovolt transmission line from the Hemingway substation to a substation near Klamath Falls, Ore., PacifiCorp continues to work with other regional entities to determine the best configuration and terminus points, considering other opportunities, projects and needs in the area.
Project Timeline
This line segment is in early planning stages and is being considered among alternative projects planned for the region. This project, or its alternatives, will be brought into service as soon as appropriate for PacifiCorp customers.
Additional Information About the Project
This project and other proposed lines in the area have been reviewed as part of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council regional planning process. PacifiCorp also has reviewed the prudency of moving forward with this segment in light of other proposed lines. Those include the Boardman to Hemingway line initiated by Idaho Power Company, and Portland General Electric’s proposed Cascade Crossing transmission line, from the Boardman substation to a substation near Salem, Ore. PacifiCorp is actively working with these and other entities to determine whether collaboration on these lines may be mutually beneficial, provide the greatest value for the region, and provide the most cost-effective option for our customers. Should the customer and system benefits of these potential partnerships exceed those of PacifiCorp’s proposed Hemingway to Captain Jack project, the company will pursue these partnership opportunities instead of Hemingway to Captain Jack.
Public input is a very important part of this process, and the company is eager to involve the public in all stages of this transmission line development. Please check this web site periodically for additional information about these proposed transmission lines as the projects progress and details are developed.
