Understanding the system that empowers our lives
Our electric system is designed and built to deliver safe, reliable power to customers in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. As part of PacifiCorp, we have more than 10,400 megawatts of generation capacity from a mix of coal, hydro, renewable wind power, gas-fired combustion turbines, solar and geothermal.
Once generated, electricity is instantaneously delivered to our customers through a complex network of transmission and distribution lines. PacifiCorp owns thousands of miles of transmission and distribution lines – more than any other single entity in the West. The company’s Energy Gateway initiative is adding more than 2,000 miles of new high-voltage transmission line to improve system reliability and deliver energy from new wind-powered and other generating resources. We're also studying several "smart grid" technologies to further improve the electrical system and help customers manage electricity use.
