Blue Sky program provides renewable energy certificates for 2009 Moab Folk Festival

MOAB, Utah – Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program is offsetting the environmental impact of electricity use at the 2009 Moab Folk Festival through the purchase of renewable energy certificates. Offsets provided by Blue Sky enable the Festival to avoid the emission of four tons of carbon dioxide into the air. That’s the equivalent of planting more than 360 trees, or not driving a car 8,848 miles.

Ashton reservoir lowered further as a precaution

ASHTON, Idaho — Geotechnical studies conducted this week at Ashton Dam are the latest step in several years of study to develop a plan for maintenance and repair work on the dam. The most recent work included sonic drilling into the dam at selected locations to determine conditions inside the dam itself. Based on results this week, utility officials and technical consultants agreed that further lowering of the reservoir was a prudent additional safety precaution. The current reduction in reservoir levels began on July 15.

CASPER, Wyo., July 10, 2009 — The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and electric utility company, PacifiCorp, announced an agreement today in which the utility will accept responsibility for 34 misdemeanor counts of violating the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The violations stem from accidental electrocutions of protected birds that occurred in proximity to the utility’s power lines in rural areas of Wyoming.

ViaWest's Blue Sky purchase ensures greener Salt Lake City data center

SALT LAKE CITY — Web hosting and data services provider ViaWest is linking 15 percent of the electricity used to power its Salt Lake City data center to renewable wind energy through Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program. Over a year’s time, ViaWest’s Blue Sky purchase will result in the avoidance of 900 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, providing annual benefits equivalent to not driving more than 1.9 million miles or planting 353 acres of trees.
Rocky Mountain Power Foundation grant supports Thunder Ridge Scout Camp

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has awarded a $3,000 grant to Boy Scouts of America, Utah National Parks Council, for the Thunder Ridge Scout Camp. IVINS, Utah – The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to Tuacahn Center for the Arts to help support the Summer Theatre Institute and its 2008 Broadway in the Desert theater season. This year’s performances will feature Les Miserables, The Sound of Music and Big River in the 2,000-seat Tuacahn Amphitheatre, and Disney’s High School Musical presented in the 330-seat indoor Hafen Theatre. These productions will be presented in repertory between June 13and Oct. 18, 2008.
