Protecting and enhancing the environment is at the forefront of our business strategy. We believe in building an increasingly
sustainable energy supply and delivery business. Our sustainable efforts include investments in:
- renewable energy generation
- energy efficiency
- air quality
- habitat protection
- waste recycling and reuse
RENEWABLE ENERGY
We have achieved national recognition for our strong commitment to renewable energy. To support renewables, we have:
1. Made renewable energy a key component of our
Integrated Resource Plan
In 2003 our long-term resource plan called for adding 1,400 megawatts of renewable resources to the power system. Our 2007
Integrated Resource Plan raised the bar, selecting 2,000 megawatts of renewable resources by 2013. You can read our
2007 Renewable Energy Action Plan
for details on how we plan to meet this commitment.
2. Helped bring new wind farms on-line
In July 2008, PacifiCorp added Spanish Fork, an 18.9-megawatt wind powered facility located near the mouth of Spanish Fork
Canyon in Utah, to their power purchases. PacifiCorp is purchasing 100 percent of the facility's output. Owned by Edison Mission
Group, the project has nine, 2.1-megawatt Suzlon turbines.
On May 31, 2008 the 94-megawatt Goodnoe Hills facility near Goldendale, Washington, added its emission-free power to the diverse
resource mix used to supply electricity to customers of Rocky Mountain Power.
In October 2007, the 140.4 megawatt Marengo wind project, near Dayton, Washington was completed.
3. Grown our
Blue Sky program
Our voluntary Blue Sky program is a way for customers to help bring even more renewable energy into the system and promote
renewable power development.
For the past several years, Blue Sky has ranked in the top five utility green pricing programs by the U.S. Department of Energy's
National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the number of customers buying renewable power and for green power sales volume. As
a company, more than 64,000 customers participate in Blue Sky.
