Project overview
Energy use continues to steadily increase and electrical demand is fast approaching the limits of the existing transmission
system. To address these issues,Rocky Mountain Power has plans to build a new transmission line stretching from the existing Sigurd substation in south central
Utah, southwest to the existing Red Butte substation, then into Nevada. The line, as proposed, is approximately 155 miles
of 345 kilovolt line from Sigurd to Red Butte in southwest Utah, and approximately 125 miles of 345 kilovolt line from Red
Butte to the existing Crystalsubstation. Line voltages are subject to review and optimization based on the regional rating process or upsizing needs from
equity partners or wholesale transmission customers who sign service agreements.
This proposed line segment is part of Energy Gateway South, a transmission expansion project that will stretch from resource
areas including prime wind generation country near Glenrock, Wyo., across Wyoming, into Utah, and ultimately to the Desert
Southwest. The company will fulfill all necessary permitting and siting requirements and work to minimize impacts to the community
and local environment from project development, construction and maintenance.
Project timeline
This line segment is in early planning changes, and will be brought in service as soon as possible. PacifiCorp is moving forward
with design and permitting.
