Project overview
To continue to maintain system reliability and support new renewable energy development, Rocky Mountain Power plans to build
a new single-circuit 500 kilovolt transmission line stretching approximately 395 miles from Aeolus, a new substation planned
in prime wind generation country near Medicine Bow, Wyo., across Wyoming and into Utah, connecting to the existing Mona substation
near Salt Lake City. This line could be upsized to a double-circuit 500 kilovolt line if warranted by third-party participation.
This proposed line segment is part of Energy Gateway South, a transmission expansion project that will connect with existing
lines then move electricity to Utahand provide rating and reliability backup to Gateway West. The company will work to maximize
benefit to customers, fulfill all appropriate siting and permitting requirements and minimize impacts to the community and
local environment from project development, construction and maintenance.
Project timeline
This line segment is in early planning changes, and will be brought in service as soon as possible. PacifiCorp is moving forward
with design and permitting.
