YAKIMA, Wash. — The PacifiCorp Foundation’s Pacific Power Fund has provided a $3,000 grant to the Yakima Symphony Orchestra
for its outreach program in area schools.
Yakima Symphony Orchestra ensembles of winds, strings, brass and percussion tour fourth grade classes in many Yakima Valley
schools. At the end of the school year, 3,000 students are brought into the symphony’s Capitol Theatre for a concert designed
just for kids. In addition, it has redesigned its classroom programs to meet the Washington State Essential Academic Learning
Requirements. Music plays a critical role in the development of cognitive skills and capacities used in mastering other school
subjects, including reading, writing and mathematics.
This recent PacifiCorp Foundation Pacific Power Fund grant was awarded during one of four annual cycles of funding for programs
in education, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic and community betterment.
