PacifiCorp Foundation awards two Cokeville education grants

COKEVILLE, Wyo. — Rocky Mountain Power’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, awarded more than $50,000 to Wyoming nonprofits this summer for educational programs throughout the state. Two of the five grants were awarded for Cokeville projects.

Cokeville High School received $5,000 from the PacifiCorp Foundation to help fund a community service television channel, which students at the high school will be involved in producing. The channel will broadcast information on a variety of school and community issues, including sporting events, school productions, concerts and community events. Students will gain hands-on learning by participating in programming, writing, communications, advertising management and financing responsibilities.

The Cokeville Miracle Foundation received $3,000 from the PacifiCorp Foundation to help support the Cokeville Witnesses Project, which includes the compilation of a book with survivor accounts of the 1986 hostage crisis and bombing at Cokeville Elementary School. The book will be given to all 154 survivors.

“We are pleased to help support these two programs in Cokeville that will benefit local students and the community as a whole,” said Craig Nelson, Rocky Mountain Power regional community manager.

Other Wyoming organizations awarded PacifiCorp Foundation funding included:

  • Habitat for Humanity, Wind River Country (Riverton) – Support for construction of a new home for a Fremont County family in need, involving students through the Central Wyoming Building Trades Program;
  • National American Indian Educational Development Center (Sheridan) – Support for expanding training for teachers of Native American students into two elementary schools located on the Wind River Indian Reservation; and
  • University of Wyoming Foundation (Laramie) – Support for scholarships and University programs.

The grants are part of one of four annual cycles awarded by the PacifiCorp Foundation for programs in the areas of education, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic and community betterment. For more information, visit  www.pacificorpfoundation.com .
