Northern California youth and elder programs get PacifiCorp Foundation funding

YREKA, Calif. — The Yreka Community Resource Center’s After-School Enrichment program and the Scott Valley FOCUS program in Fort Jones each received a $2,000 grant from Pacific Power’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning.

Scott Valley FOCUS is working to reduce isolation among area senior citizens by hiring an activities coordinator to organize art, music, theater and special topic presentations to engage the local population. There is one senior center in the area that provides meals, but there are no organized activities.

Yreka’s After-School Enrichment program is designed to help latchkey children of working parents raise their grades and have a constructive place to go after school. Children receive tutoring, a snack and interaction in a safe, caring environment.

“Helping improve the quality of life among our oldest and youngest citizens is something we can all do,” said Isaac Regenstreif, executive director of the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning. “We believe we have a stake in the communities we serve, and this is one way Pacific Power can help.”
