ENTERPRISE, Ore. — Pacific Power’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, recently awarded more than $2,500
for Fishtrap’s Connecting with Schools initiative to provide top-notch education programs for Wallowa County students.
This is the second year the foundation has supported three Fishtrap programs: Friday College, which offers college-level English
courses to local high school students; Writer in Residence, which brings a visiting writer into the schools for nine weeks,
and the Lecture Series, which invites visiting historians, journalists, novelists and others to share their knowledge of the
world.
“Schoolchildren in Wallowa County face a variety of educational and cultural challenges, given that local people have fewer
opportunities for educational and cultural enrichment,” said Rich Wandschneider, Fishtrap’s executive director. “However,
if given the right opportunities, our children can make meaningful contributions to the social, cultural and political future
of our state.”
“These funds are going toward outstanding programs that will impact about 650 Wallowa County children,” said Bill Clemens,
regional community manager for Pacific Power. “We believe we have a stake in the communities we serve, and this is one way
Pacific Power can help.”
