The Conference Board identifies four major categories of beneficiaries for its analysis of corporate giving trends. Following
The Conference Board’s categorization, the Foundation classifies and reviews grant proposals according to the nature of recipient
organizations (rather than according to the purpose of each grant). Requests for funding should be postmarked by the following
submission deadlines:
- Education organizations, March 15
Includes K-12 and higher educational institutions, literacy organizations, scholarship funds through intermediary organizations
(e.g., United Negro College Fund)
- Civic, community and organizations not covered in other categories, June 15
Includes environmental and ecological groups, justice and law, housing and urban renewal, neighborhood or community-based
groups, state and local government agencies
- Culture and arts organizations, September 15
Includes theaters, dance groups, orchestras, operas, museums, arts councils, cultural centers, halls of fame, heritage foundations
and nonacademic libraries
- Health, welfare and social service organizations, December 15
Includes United Way, national health and human service agencies, hospitals, agencies for youth (e.g., Boys & Girls Clubs)
An applicant should submit only one proposal copy on unbound 8-1/2 by 11 inch paper, with each interior page numbered and
identified, to the Foundation at 825 NE Multnomah, Suite 2000, Portland, Oregon 97232. Proposals sent by fax will not be accepted.
