Let our experts help your business save money. Our Energy FinAnswer program helps commercial customers upgrade their facilities
to become more energy-efficient. Not only will we provide advice on energy-efficient lighting, compressed air systems, refrigeration
systems, heating and cooling systems, pumping systems and more, we also will help finance your upgrades.
Utah Power industrial customers in Idaho — as well as new construction projects or operators of existing commercial facilities
greater than 12,000 square feet — are eligible for Energy FinAnswer assistance.
How it works
If you want to improve your business’s reliability and efficiency, we can provide you with the technical expertise and financing
to make it happen.
With our help, you’ll be able to retrofit existing equipment and systems or upgrade those still in the planning stages. From
the outset, our experts will work closely with you and your team to push your projects through to completion.
If you elect to use our financing option, a separate line item will appear on your monthly utility bill upon project completion.
You’ll see that your energy-savings will soon make the projects pay for themselves.
To ensure that your upgrades are saving you money, we perform an inspection to check for product quality and proper installation.
For larger, complex upgrades, commissioning support is available to ensure maximum performance.
Benefits
Read on to learn more about the benefits of using Energy FinAnswer:
- Energy analysis — This comprehensive study provides a projection of expected energy savings and implementation costs. The
only stipulation is that the technologies you choose must be cost-effective energy savers.
- Expert technical assistance — Need help getting started? We can help you develop a project scope that will outline your technical
upgrade expectations. The next step is for you to approve an engineering team that will be assigned to your project.
- Quality control — We use an independent third party engineering firm to provide quality control throughout the installation
process. They review the energy analysis, make site visits and oversee any pre- and post-monitoring to ensure accuracy and
consistency. They also perform a thorough inspection of all equipment and systems to verify that everything has been properly
installed.
Financing
You can choose to finance these measures with your own source of funds or consider our funding. The funding for cost-effective
measures are based on the projected annual kilowatt-hours (kwh) saved. After the measures are installed and inspected, an
Energy Services Charge will be added to your monthly bill to repay our funding plus interest. Our rates are competitive with
other offers in the marketplace. Complete financial details will be available after we receive and approve your

For existing facilities
After signing a
Letter of Intent, we’ll work with you to develop a project scope. The scope will be used to select an energy consultant for the energy analysis.
After selection is made, this professional team will go on-site and conduct a thorough technical analysis and quantify the
energy savings potential.
If design assistance is appropriate for your project, you will be asked to sign an interim agreement — a Design Agreement
— enabling us to move forward to the design phase.
If you choose to take advantage of our financing, you will be asked to sign an Energy Services Agreement. Payments may be
made on a progress basis or as a lump sum upon the installation of the energy efficiency measures and project completion.
For new facilities
If you’re planning on building a new facility or starting a major renovation, the procedure is different. To establish a baseline
for energy savings, we’ll work with your existing engineering firm during the initial design stages. We’ll conduct a high-quality
study to identify energy efficiency measures that will improve the energy efficiency of the design. In addition, we’ll pay
for the cost of the study.
After a comparison is made and if there is a redesign of existing plans (if required), we may provide funding for the incremental
costs of the measures.
You’re in charge
Remember, once you make a commitment, you remain in control. You choose the technologies and the manufacturers. You choose
the contractors with whom you’ll be working. We will act as your partner to provide advice when you need it.
From analysis through installation, our intent is to work within your planning and construction schedule. Think of us as an
extension of your own team – we are there to offer information, confirmation and added options to help you install successful,
energy-saving measures.
